Dear Parents and Students,

It gives me great pleasure to write to you as the Head of School of North Jakarta Intercultural School, and to welcome you to what I’m sure will be a very busy but exciting and rewarding year ahead.

Over the last year, all the faculty, staff and students have made me and my family feel very welcome, and I feel honored to be part of the NJIS family. Being a proud father of two children (Grade 2 and Grade 4), I am very much aware of the responsibility that my faculty, staff and I have in ensuring that we provide the very best care and education of the highest standard for your children.

I have been fortunate to have been working in schools that believe that education is about developing the whole child socially, emotionally and academically. These are principles that will continue NJIS. There is much to celebrate in this school, especially for the past 25 years, and I am excited to lead NJIS into its next stage and the future to ensure that every student has a happy, fulfilling, and successful time here. After all, happy children learn more faster.

NJIS has a set of core values (WE ACT) and core competencies (RIGHT), which will continue to underpin all the work we do. These values and competencies will have a huge impact as your child develops. They help to deepen your children’s positive values, and in doing so, help them consider the implications of their choices in relation to themselves, the community from which they are part of, and the wider world in which they live.

As Head of School, my aim is to improve the education and well-being of your children based on our WASC approved American Curriculum, which is made up of a variety of standards in the American system. However, I will not do this independently, but I will be supported by Dr. Paula Swartz, our Curriculum Director, as well as all other faculty and staff at NJIS. Your support as parents is of the utmost importance, and I hope our partnership will be productive. I believe that these relationships are the key to the success of any school. Working together, we can ensure that your children enjoy their time at school and make good progress.

I would like to remind you that the official start to the 2016/2017 academic year will be tomorrow, August 11, 2016 at 7:30 am. Students are expected to be here on time. We will have the following dismissal times:

August 11: Pre-Kindergarten & Kindergarten @ 10:30 am

                 Lower School, Grade 1 - Grade 5 @ 2:30 pm (all year)

                 Upper School, Grade 6 - Grade 12 @ 2:45 pm (all year)

August 12 - September 9:  Pre-Kindergarten @ 10:30 am

                                         Kindergarten @ 12:00 noon

I am very happy to be here, and I look forward to continuing the success of the school into 2016 and beyond. On behalf of the faculty and staff of NJIS, I say terima kasih for your support and I look forward to working with you over the coming years. My door is always open, and I look forward to meeting you soon. Please drop by to say hello.
